Ste Maxime Overview

Ste Maxime is a dynamic town in southern France, with a large indigenous population of over 11,000.

Many of the Medieval aspects have been retained including the Town hall, still visibly a 15th century chateau, and the 16th century Defensive Tour Carree.

It has a long history, in 1,000 AD the Lerins islands Monks fortified the site and built a Monastery, later adding the Tour Carree which, along with the Tour du Portalet of St Tropez, protected the Gulf of St Tropez from invaders.

The Romans used Ste Maxime as a trading post for local wine, olives and oil. Remains of a Roman thermal baths and a 'stele' were found at La Nartelle.

In the 19th century, Napoleon ordered the rebuilding of the Battery at Ste Maxime. On the 15th August 1944 the allied forces landed there.

Local produce, fruit and vegetables can be bought at the local market each Thursday.

Ste Maxime has many lively bars and restaurants with live music.

An 18 hole golf course, watersports, and plenty of attractions to keep young and old amused, Ste Maxime has it all.
