Grimaud

The village of Grimaud is well preserved and has a long History. A walk through the sleepy village is a 'must do'. Its lovely stone and terracotta tiled houses, edged with vibrant Bougainvillea and Oleander, are a real treat to the eyes, but it is the Castle of Grimaud that dominates the village.

Grimaud has a tranquil feel about it, compared to St Tropez or Ste Maxime, but, being close to the sea and the beaches, it's an ideal base for the Gulf of St Tropez and all it has to offer.

International airports at Nice (1 hour) and Toulon Hyeres (45mins) allow easy access. Ste Raphael (35km) has both high speed and regional train services, and daily bus services link the town to St Tropez, Ste Maxime and Frejus.

Overview of Grimaud

If you visit the Gulf of St Tropez (or anywhere in southern France), Grimaud is a 'must see' location with history dating back to medieval times. In the 11th century, its steep summit drew the attention of strategists wanting to control the access from the north and from the Maures mountains. Until the 17th century, Grimaud castle commanded the whole Gulf of St Tropez, which was actually called the Gulf of Grimaud until the end of the 19th century.

Grimaud has a relaxed setting with authentic French village charm.

Port Grimaud

Although part of the Grimaud Commune, Port Grimaud has a completely different feel to it. Conceived in 1966 by Francois Sperry, Port Grimaud now has more than 2,400 properties (of which 1,100 are individual houses), and more than 2,000 boat moorings and 7km of canals, spread over 90 hectares.

Port Grimaud is a very popular international destination, attracting over 500,000 visitors each year. Although relatively modern, the site was declared a registered monument of the 20th century by the ministry of culture.

Serviced by International airports at Nice (1 hour) and Toulon Hyeres (45 mins), as well as the small private charter airfield at La Mole (15mins).

The railway station at St Raphael (35kms) provides high speed as well as services to the rest of southern France.

Local ferry services connect Port Grimaud to St Tropez, Ste Maxime and St Raphael, local residents have use of a free water taxi service.

Overview of Port Grimaud

Port Grimaud, City of Lakes, is a fascinating and unique waterside development. No two houses are the same, each property in Port Grimaud has its facade and shutter colour registered, in order to ensure its original colours when restoration works are required.

24,000 tons of rock were used to create the curved embankment that protects the city from the sea.

The centre of Port Grimaud has a busy market square, with twice weekly fresh produce and regional products markets. The square also has a good selection of cafes and restaurants where you can sit and watch the world go by.

The area has a good safety record with a local security force monitoring the entire complex.
